A LITTLE MORE ABOUT the Canadian Space Agency and the OSIRIS-REx mission
The Canadian Space Agency’s mission is to promote the peaceful use of space, advance scientific knowledge, and maximize the socioeconomic benefits of space technologies for Canadians. As part of the OSIRIS-REx mission, an international collaboration aimed at collecting and returning samples from the asteroid Bennu to Earth, the CSA required specialized infrastructure capable of meeting the demands of this historic mission.
Consab was commissioned to design and build the cleanrooms dedicated to receiving, handling, and analyzing samples from this asteroid. These highly controlled environments were designed to meet the most stringent standards of the space industry, ensuring the scientific integrity of the samples from the moment they arrive.
SPECIAL FEATURES AND CHALLENGES
- Planning : Each stage of construction was planned with exceptional rigour to comply with the space and scientific protocols mandated by the Canadian Space Agency and its international partners.
- Optimization : The spaces were optimized to combine functionality, environmental control, and accessibility for the scientific teams, while minimizing the risk of contamination.
- Collaboration : Close coordination with CSA engineers, scientists, and representatives was maintained throughout the project, ensuring a perfect alignment between operational needs and construction constraints.
- Delivery : Consab delivered the cleanrooms with extreme precision, in compliance with the highest international standards, an environment worthy of housing materials over 4.5 billion years old.
